Choose Your Coimbra Cultural Visits

Select the Coimbra cultural visits you would like us to check and organize after booking. Options may include the University of Coimbra, the Old Cathedral and the Monastery of Santa Cruz, while the Almedina Gate is part of the walking route.

University of Coimbra — Joanina Library, Royal Palace and Chapel of São Miguel

If selected, visit the University of Coimbra, including its most emblematic spaces: Joanina Library, the former Royal Palace spaces and the Chapel of São Miguel. This experience offers a layered understanding of knowledge, ceremony and political authority in one of Europe’s oldest universities.

Old Cathedral of Coimbra — Sé Velha

If selected, visit the Old Cathedral of Coimbra, a Romanesque cathedral whose fortress-like architecture reflects Coimbra’s medieval political and military context.

Almedina Gate

Walk through the Almedina Gate, the historic gateway linking Coimbra’s upper and lower quarters. This stop helps explain the medieval structure of the city and the relationship between academic, civic and commercial life.

Monastery of Santa Cruz

If selected, visit the Monastery of Santa Cruz, one of Coimbra’s most historically significant religious sites, closely linked to the formation of Portugal and the memory of its first monarch.

Lunch and Free Time in Coimbra

Lunch is intentionally flexible and not included in the base price. Guests may choose where and when to pause, according to their preferences and the pace of the day. Your licensed driver-guide may assist with recommendations and reservations when possible.

Transfer from Coimbra to Aveiro

After lunch, continue toward Aveiro and the lagoon landscape of central Portugal. The transfer creates a natural shift from Coimbra’s hilltop heritage to Aveiro’s waterways and maritime character.

Aveiro Railway Station — Azulejo Panels

Begin in Aveiro with a stop at the historic Aveiro Railway Station, known for its exterior azulejo panels depicting local life, salt production, maritime work and regional identity.

Choose Your Aveiro Afternoon Experience

Select one available Aveiro experience after booking, subject to availability and partner confirmation. You may choose a visit focused on salt culture or a relaxed canal cruise by moliceiro boat.

Noeirinha Natural Sea Salt Factory

If selected, visit the Noeirinha Natural Sea Salt Factory for an introduction to Aveiro’s traditional salt culture. This experience explains how salt production shaped the city’s economy, landscape and lagoon identity.

Aveiro Canal Cruise by Moliceiro Boat

If selected, enjoy a relaxed 45-minute moliceiro boat ride through Aveiro’s canals. From the water, bridges, façades and canal edges reveal a different rhythm of the city.

Aveiro Historic Centre Walking Tour

Enjoy a guided walk through Aveiro Historic Centre, with time to discover canal streets, tiled façades, urban atmosphere and local traditions. The route includes context on the Church of Misericórdia and Aveiro Cathedral.

Ovos Moles Introduction

If timing allows, make a brief stop to discover Ovos Moles, Aveiro’s famous conventual sweet and one of the city’s most recognizable gastronomic traditions. Any tasting is optional and not included.
