Being almost entirely rebuilt from scratch by enlightenment the reward was retirement that will come in the 19th century. In the 20th the world forgets about it. CASCAIS An early seaside destination for Portuguese elite emerging from a fisherman’s village, just like so till the end of the 1800´s. From the 1930s on the unexpected happened as international royals and exiles dramatically changed Cascais, transforming it into Portugal´s Riviera.
