Itinerary and highlights
Start the day with early private pickup from your hotel or agreed meeting point in Porto. The early departure is important because Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal and the route is planned to arrive in time for the Pilgrim Mass.
Travel comfortably from Porto into Galicia. During the drive, your licensed driver-guide introduces the meaning of Santiago as the destination of the Camino and explains the structure of the day.
Arrive in Santiago de Compostela and approach the historic centre with orientation from your licensed driver-guide. The first focus is understanding the city as a destination of arrival, pilgrimage and cathedral-centred identity.
Begin around Praza do Obradoiro, the monumental heart of Santiago. This square brings together the cathedral, the Hostal dos Reis Católicos, Palacio de Raxoi and the surrounding civic and historical institutions.
Pilgrim Mass at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela
Attend or respectfully observe the Pilgrim Mass inside the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, one of the most meaningful moments of the day. This is where Santiago is experienced as a living place of devotion and shared pilgrimage.
It welcomes what, according to tradition, is the tomb of the Apostle Santiago, which made the temple one of the main pilgrimage destinations in Europe during the Middle Ages through the so-called Camino de Santiago, an initiatory route that followed the wake of the Milky Way communicating the Iberian Peninsula with the rest of the continent.
Choose Your Cultural Visit After Mass
After the Pilgrim Mass, select one available cultural experience, subject to availability, schedules and guest preference.
Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela Visit
If selected, enjoy a focused visit to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, approached with context after the Pilgrim Mass. This visit connects architecture, ritual, Romanesque origins, later additions and the cathedral’s central role in the Camino.
Cathedral Museum of Santiago
If selected, visit the Cathedral Museum, which adds historical and artistic depth to the cathedral experience. The museum helps guests understand Santiago through collections, spaces, treasury elements, heritage interpretation and the broader story of the Camino.
Lunch and Free Time in Santiago Old Town
Lunch is intentionally flexible and not included in the base price. Guests may explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town, enjoy a relaxed meal, visit quiet squares or use the time for personal reflection and discovery.
Santiago Old Town Atmosphere
During free time, guests may discover streets such as Rúa do Vilar, Rúa Nova and Rúa do Franco, or squares such as Praza da Quintana and Praza das Praterías. These spaces reveal Santiago through granite façades, arcades, pilgrimage memory and everyday life.
Construction on the Royal Hospital began in 1501 by order of the Catholic Monarchs, who had visited Santiago in 1486 and saw the need for better healthcare for residents and pilgrims.
It is nowadays converted to a 5* Hotel.
Mercado de Abastos
Visit the Mercado de Abastos, Santiago’s central market. This stop offers insight into local Galician life through fish, shellfish, vegetables, cheeses, regional products and the everyday rhythm of the city.
Modernity and tradition really live in harmony in the Abastos area, with exciting new restaurants also opening their doors in recent years.
Here, you will find some of Galicia’s best products.
